ISLAMABAD: On Wednesday, Speaker of the National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq suspended Sergeant at Arms Muhammad Ishfaq Ashraf of the lower house of parliament for a term of four months for demonstrating recklessness with regard to the security of the NA.
Additionally, the speaker imposed a one-year suspension on four other security staff members for their inability to guarantee the safety of the residence. These staff members included Security Assistant Waqas Ahmed and three junior security officers, Obaidullah, Waheed Safdar, and Muhammad Haroon.
This development is part of the fallout from the political unrest that began when the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MPs were arrested by the Islamabad police, purportedly from within the Parliament House premises.
The speaker chastised Islamabad Inspector General (IG) of Police Syed Ali for the arrests, in addition to the erstwhile ruling party.
