Just after passing the puck to Adam Johnson, a teammate for the Nottingham Panthers, Victor Bjorkung witnessed a tragic event take place on the ice.
Following a blade wound to his neck sustained on October 28, 2018, during a game against the Sheffield Steelers, Johnson passed away in the hospital.
A few weeks later, Bjorkung quit the team and went back to his home country of Sweden. He was traumatized by what he had witnessed happen to his teammate, whom he described as “an unbelievable guy”.
He discussed the long-lasting effects the tragedy has had on him and the sport in an interview with Sport.
