The government of Punjab has declared that all government commerce colleges will be abolished and that information technology (IT) colleges will take their place.
This project, which was started by the Punjab Department of Higher Education, is meant to revitalize the province’s educational system and meet the changing demands of the labor market.
All 85 of Punjab’s government commerce colleges will now be reorganized and transformed into IT colleges as a result of the decision.
According to sources, there has been a discernible drop in student enrollment and interest in commerce studies, which is why this move has occurred. Each trade college now has less than a hundred students, according to sources in the Higher Education Department.According to further sources, the government currently spends up to Rs300,000 on each commerce student. This substantial outlay of funds has prompted the demand for more effective use of educational resources. The government intends to lower expenses and better match educational offerings with current global job market trends by converting these institutions to IT institutes.
