Over the course of 11 seasons, from 1989 to 1999, the program that followed a group of Los Angeles lifeguards rose to become one of the most watched television shows worldwide.
After publishing an article on X disclosing the plans, the rights holder, Fremantle, seemed to confirm that a remake will air on news.
The relaunch, which is penned by writer Lara Olsen, is expected to keep the same group of producers from the first iteration, however it’s unclear if viewers will get to see some of their old favorites back on the beach.
It’s unclear if actors who made their marks in the original, including David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson, would appear in the new version.
The actress who played Shauni McClain from the first episode till 1992, Erika Eleniak, stated to News in 2020 that she wouldn’t rule out a comeback.
