ISLAMABAD: The constitutional bench of the Supreme Court has given military courts conditional authorization to render decisions in cases involving 85 suspects who are reportedly connected to the May 9, 2023, riots.
The constitutional bench stated in its ruling on the appeals against civilians’ military trials that military court rulings would be contingent upon the top court’s decision in the cases that were still ongoing.
“The suspects eligible for clemency should be granted it and released, while those who cannot be released should be transferred to prisons after being sentenced,” the constitutional court ruled.
The panel, presided over by Justice Aminuddin Khan, considered intra-court challenges contesting rulings from military courts. Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, Justice Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail.
