In a historic ruling, the Supreme Court emphasized the need for more robust safeguards and declared workplace harassment to be a primary contributor to gender imbalance.
All men, women, and transgender people have a constitutional right to a secure workplace, according to the court’s written decision, which was penned by Justice Mansoor Ali Shah. The ruling emphasized the difficulties encountered by women in the workforce by pointing out Pakistan’s low standing in the Global Gender Gap Index, which places it 145th out of 146 countries.
The court rejected an appeal by a driver who was forced to retire after a female doctor filed a complaint, reinforcing the ban on harassment in workplaces. The driver was charged with slandering the doctor’s reputation.
