One could consider Vietnam’s rural farm laborers to be nearly superhuman. On a daily basis, they carry heavy loads strung to a pole and then walk for up to several miles at a time. Even though the ungainly, heavy containers of vegetables, tools, or other supplies frequently weigh more than their own body weight, they appear to handle the load with ease.
Most of us would find it difficult to do. It’s difficult enough to lift something the size of our own bodyweight, but using it to walk great distances would be too much for even the toughest of strongmen or women. However, their long, springy bamboo sticks are a secret weapon used by Vietnamese farm laborers.
