PESHAWAR: According to his nephew Anas Haqqani, Khalil Rahman Haqqani, the Afghan Taliban’s acting minister for refugees, was murdered in a bomb in Kabul, the nation’s capital, on Wednesday.
Following the withdrawal of international forces from Afghanistan in 2021, Khalil Haqqani was appointed a minister in the Taliban’s provisional administration. According to the US State Department, he was a top leader of the Haqqani network, which was held responsible for significant attacks during the 20-year conflict.
Jalaluddin Haqqani, the founder of the infamous Haqqani network, has a brother named Khalil. The current interior minister of Afghanistan, Sirajuddin Haqqani, was also the nephew of the slain minister.
According to reports, the Haqqanis are fighting for power among the Taliban leadership. Press reports state that they are positioned as
