On Thursday, Damian Wojnilowicz, 36, was sentenced to 22 months in prison at Cardiff Crown Court for his role in the atypical break-in that occurred in Monmouthshire on July 16.
The woman claimed that upon returning from work and discovering that things had been moved in the garden and her recycling bin had been emptied, she was too afraid to stay in her own house.
She found a message from the thief that read, “Don’t worry, be happy, eat up and scratch.”
The court was also informed that plant pots had been moved and bird feeders had been replenished.
A pair of shoes had been taken out of their package inside the house and put in the recycle bin.
According to prosecutor Alice Sykes, food from the woman’s pantry had been used to prepare a dinner.
The groceries had been removed from a bag and put in the refrigerator, which was then reorganized.
New kitchen utensils from the shopping bag had been laid out, and the old ones had been thrown in the bin.
Additionally, the floor had been mopped with an open bucket and mop, toothbrush heads had been replaced, and an empty bottle of wine had been placed on a rack after being consumed.
