The United States’ highest court has temporarily supported the Trump administration’s decision to halt payments for international aid.
Chief Justice John Roberts of the Supreme Court stepped in when the administration had to pay contractors by midnight (05:00 GMT on Thursday).
Authorities had claimed that they were unable to handle the payments in the time range that a judge from a lower court had set.
US President Donald Trump has acted swiftly after taking office in January to terminate numerous aid initiatives, most of which were managed by USAID, the US Agency for International Development, and to put the majority of its employees on administrative leave or fire them.
