The plea that six Chinese nationals submitted to “seek protection against extortion” was declared illegal by Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar on Monday, stating that the foreigners ought to have contacted the authorities through the consul general.
Speaking at a press conference in Karachi, Lanjar stated that “all foreign citizens, including Chinese nationals, should follow the Foreigners’ Act” and that their plea to the Sindh High Court (SHC) lacked legal support.
Three days ago, six Chinese “investors” petitioned the SHC for protection from claimed harassment and extortion by Karachi police officials amid the city’s deteriorating law and order situation.
