According to a media report on Monday, the United States will press a judge to order Alphabet, the parent company of Google, to sell its popular Chrome browser as part of a significant antitrust assault on the internet behemoth.
US Department of Justice antitrust authorities declined to comment on a Bloomberg report that they will request in court on Wednesday that Google sell up Chrome and restructure other parts of its operations.
After the computer giant was discovered to be operating an illegal monopoly, justice officials announced in October that they would require that Google make significant changes to its business practices, even if it meant breaking up.
In a court filing, the government stated that it was examining possibilities that would result in “structural” changes.
