Oleksandr Usyk decided to give up the title, thus the 27-year-old British fighter was elevated to the position of full IBF world champion during the summer.
Then, last month at Wembley Stadium, Dubois successfully defended the title against the 34-year-old Anthony Joshua.
The two are scheduled to face each other again, but if Bakole and Kabayel square off before then, the IBF might have to give Dubois a waiver so he can avoid facing his required opponent.
The time of Kabayel and Bakole’s battle still needs to be worked out, and they won’t formally announce the mandatory challenger until after the fight.
Although Bakole, 31, trains in Scotland, he is actually from Cameroon. He has won ten straight fights after suffering his lone defeat to American Michael Hunter in 2018.
During that period, he has achieved significant upset wins over American prodigy Jared Anderson and Olympic silver champion Tony Yoka.
The 32-year-old Kabayel has won all 25 of his fights via knockout.
The German has now stopped four times in a row.
