Eight guests who were supposed to have a fantastic cruise holiday ended up having a terrifying experience when their ship left without them since they returned from a private tour later than expected. They ended up trapped on the African island of São Tomé and Príncipe.
The group of visitors, consisting of six Americans and two Australians, set out on a 21-day cruise on the Norwegian Dawn, departing from Cape Town, South Africa, and ending in Barcelona, Spain. The original plan was to travel further north along the African coast.
However, they had to conceal their passengers from the guard when they failed to board the ship at the scheduled hour of 3 p.m. on March 27.Jay and Jill Campbell, the inhabitants of the stranded group, are from South Carolina. They said that they made every effort to get back on board, including notifying the cruise captain and the local Coast Guard, but they received no assistance.
