KARACHI: Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar promised harsh action against those involved for the tragedy while revealing on Thursday that an investigative committee found that Dr. Shahnawaz Kunbhar, the blasphemy suspect in Umerkot, was slain in a staged police encounter.
The physician was accused of publishing “blasphemous posts” on social media, and Umerkot police filed a Section 295-C criminal complaint against him.
The local police placed Dr. Kunbhar under “protective custody” on September 18. The suspect was later moved to Mirpurkhas, but the next day, Sindhri police shot and killed him during what they described as “an encounter.”
Sindhri SHO According to Niaz Khoso, the doctor and his “accomplices” opened fire on the cops. As payback, the suspect was fatally shot.
