The 36-year-old will start coaching the Australian men’s squad right now, and he will play in their T20 international series against Pakistan the following month.
Wade will continue to play for the Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash and in other T20 international franchise competitions.
His final game for Australia in the Super 8s stage of this year’s T20 World Cup against India was the last of his 225 international appearances in all formats.
“At the conclusion of the previous T20 World Cup, I was well aware that my days playing for my country were probably coming to an end. Over the past six months, people have been talking about my coaching and international retirement all the time,” Wade stated.
Over the past few years, coaching has caught my attention, and I am thrilled and thankful for the wonderful chances that have presented themselves.
Wade averaged 26.13 while playing 92 Twenty20 matches for Australia, scoring 1,202 runs in 68 innings.
The left-hander scored 1,867 runs at an average of 26.29 in 83 innings during one-day internationals, including one hundred and eleven half-centuries.
Wade was a member of Australia’s team for the 2019 Ashes and played 36 Test matches, scoring four hundred.
