The ceasefire agreement between Israel and the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, which has been in place for 13 months, has come into force.
The deal would “cease the fighting in Lebanon, and secure Israel from the threat of Hezbollah and other terrorist organizations operating from Lebanon,” according to the United States and France.
Israeli forces must leave southern Lebanon within 60 days, and Hezbollah has been allowed 60 days to cease its armed presence there.
Official briefings and the accord itself tell us this about the ceasefire.
The governments of Israel and Lebanon, not Hezbollah, have agreed on 13 points, including that both nations are “prepared to take steps to promote conditions for a permanent and comprehensive solution.”
