The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation reports that a guy convicted of murder broke out of police custody on Monday and that they are currently searching for him.
According to a statement from the prisons department, Cesar M. Hernandez, 34, escaped from a van immediately after being taken to a court appearance at the Kern County Superior Courthouse in Delano at approximately 10:45 a.m. local time.
Hernandez leaped out of the van, escaped staff custody, and is now at large, according to the agency.
According to the agency, Hernandez is currently serving a 25-year to life sentence for first-degree murder with the chance of parole.
“Agents and our law enforcement partners continue to actively search and gather intelligence as they investigate this,” the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation said.
