In Palumpa, a remote hamlet in the Northern Territory approximately seven hours’ drive from Darwin, the alert was issued on Tuesday night.
Authorities said the boy was last seen swimming in a creek and that “initial reports stated the child had been attacked by a crocodile.”
Authorities and residents have begun a search.
Senior Sergeant Erica Gibson stated, “Local officers are on scene and our thoughts are with the family and the community.”
“Officers are currently searching a large section of the creek via boat and we thank the community for their ongoing assistance.”
Over 100,000 crocodiles, some reaching lengths of up to 20 feet, can be found in it.
Nonetheless, human fatal assaults are not common.
