Alongside Simon Felstead, an Icelandic colleague, Richard Walker has been running to raise money for Alzheimer’s Research UK.
The 43-year-old wrote on Instagram that he suffered from hyperthermic shock and lost consciousness less than two kilometers from the finish line. He further stated that his body temperature was “42C and rising.”
“To be honest, I overtrained and exerted myself excessively on that particular day—perhaps a hint of Everest conceit,” he remarked, alluding to his triumphant ascent of the highest peak in the world the previous year.
Half an hour later, I was awake and surrounded by an incredible team of medical personnel, swathed in ice, with a variety of objects stuck all over my body.
