Significant anomalies in recruiting at the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) have been uncovered in a recent audit report by the Auditor General of Pakistan. As a result, the national exchequer has lost over Rs45 million.
The PTA engaged in illegal recruitment during the financial year 2022–2023; this included employing one IT officer and two assistant directors at its headquarters without creating equivalent posts, according to the AGP’s annual audit report for 2023–2024 on the telecommunications industry.
These hirings went against established service guidelines even though there were no open positions that qualified.
The audit reveals that the PTA broke the law by paying wages and benefits of Rs45.9 million. Moreover, the hiring procedure did not follow the stated standards.
