ISLAMABAD The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has signaled that the April 2 Senate election in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will be postponed due to an ongoing dispute over the oath-taking of members holding reserved seats in the province. This decision was made in a seven-page ruling released today.
On Thursday, the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) rendered a seven-page decision in response to a plea seeking to suspend the Senate election until the entire province of KP had been subjected to oath-taking procedures.
The ruling stated that the right to vote is a fundamental right that cannot be taken away from any voter and that the commission has the authority to issue such directives and consequential measures to guarantee that elections are conducted honestly, justly, fairly, and in accordance with law.
