Following Elon Musk’s days-long tirade against Pakistan on X, in which he connected Pakistanis to UK grooming gangs, senators voiced grave worries over the possible registration of Starlink, a satellite internet firm controlled by the billionaire.
The concerns were voiced during a meeting of the Senate’s Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication, which was presided over by Senator Palwasha Khan, at Parliament House on Wednesday. The meeting covered important topics such as the performance of the telecom authority, the Personal Data Protection Bill, and Starlink operations.
Senators were briefed by the chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) that the nation’s first National Space Policy had been approved in 2023 and that the creation of the Pakistan Space Activities Regulatory Board (PSARB), which is overseen by the National Command Authority, was planned for 2024.
