The lawmaker shared a video on Facebook that seemed to show him seated in the passenger seat with the windscreen of the car at least two gunshot holes in it.
The motorist in the video, who hasn’t been independently confirmed yet, looked hurt but managed to keep driving.
Mr. Morales stated in a radio interview following the incident that a bullet passed “centimeters” from his head when two cars stopped him on the road and opened fire on his vehicle.
At a time when tensions are high, Mr. Morales supporters are obstructing roadways in the nation’s center while security and law enforcement attempt to clear them.
The government of Bolivia has criticized Mr. Morales for “destabilizing” the nation with the two weeks of blockages that have slowed down the country’s supply of fuel and food.
Rising prices and declining gas production are other issues facing the nation. Troops invaded the presidential palace, narrowly preventing a coup in the nation.
Ahead of the 2025 elections, Mr. Morales and President Luis Arce are engaged in a power struggle. He has stated his desire to succeed Acre, who was once his political protégé, economic minister, and ally.
