ISLAMABAD The nation’s top economist, Dr. Kaiser Bengali, resigned from official committees the day before due to “biased” rightsizing, but the administration stated on Sunday that the former’s decision appeared to be the result of a misunderstanding or communication breakdown.
A government representative told News on Sunday that “all government positions from grades 1 to 22 are being right-sized, not only positions from grades 1 to 16.”
He threatened to remove numerous senior officials from office as well.
In its initial phase, the rightsizing committee has examined six ministries thus far. One ministry’s dissolution has been authorized, and two more will combine. The spokeswoman described the economist’s assertion as a misunderstanding and stated that in this regard, at least two officers of BPS-22 and several others from BPS-17 to BPS-21 may be terminated as their posts would become redundant.
The official said that posts from grades 17 to 22 could be among the approximately 60,000 positions that become surplus.
In addition to announcing that the economy “is on a ventilator due to [mounting] debts and on the path to destruction,” Bengali resigned from three government committees on Saturday that had been established to reduce spending and implement institutional rightsizing.
