The watchdog’s investigation looked at three programs co-hosted by former pensions secretary Esther McVey and her husband, backbencher Philip Davies, and two programs hosted by former leader of the House of Commons Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg.
As per the Broadcasting Code, news presenters are required to exhibit due impartiality, and unless there is an editorial rationale, politicians are not permitted to work as newsreaders, news interviewers, or reporters, according to news.
It was determined that the news was “therefore not presented with due impartiality” and that there was no “exceptional justification” in any of the five incidents they looked into.
News is now aware that if it breaks the guidelines once more, it may be subject to a statutory discipline that includes a monetary fine or the suspension or revocation of its license.
