According to her attorney, Iranian Nobel Peace Prize winner Narges Mohammadi was freed from custody for three weeks due to medical reasons.
Mostafa Nili stated that when Ms. Mohammadi had surgery to remove a tumor, officials had delayed his client’s jail sentence on the doctor’s recommendation.
The temporary release has been deemed “too little, too late” by her family and supporters, who have demanded her permanent release.
Since 2021, the 52-year-old advocate for women’s rights has been detained at Tehran’s infamous Evin jail.
“Based on the advice of the examining doctor, the public prosecutor suspended the jail sentence against Narges Mohammadi for three weeks and she was released from prison,” Mostafa Nili, her attorney, stated on X
The Narges Mohammadi Foundation revealed in a statement that she had surgery.
