Los Angeles, the nation’s second-biggest metropolis, is preparing for a confrontation with Donald Trump on immigration.
Its city council banned the use of municipal resources to assist federal immigration officials on Tuesday by passing a “sanctuary city” policy.
A number of emergency measures also confirmed LA’s public school system’s status as a “sanctuary” for LGBTQ kids and undocumented immigrants.
Trump, who will take office in two months, has pledged to carry out mass deportations as soon as he gets back to the White House. Tim Homan, the “border czar” he appointed, has called for sanctuary communities to “get the hell out of the way” of federal immigration laws.
