The UK has “less than a week of gas demand in store” because of colder-than-normal weather, according to Centrica, the company that controls the nation’s largest gas storage facility.
However, the UK’s gas network is owned by National Gas, which stated that storage “remains healthy” and that the country’s gas comes from “a diverse range of sources.”
Even if gas storage did run low, the UK could import more from Europe and other nations, according to energy analysts.
Gas storage tanks in the UK are currently around half-full, according to Centrica.
“Plunging temperatures and high demand for gas-fired power stations have reduced UK winter gas storage to concerningly low levels,” claimed the report.
The company also stated that it was “more difficult to top up storage” due to “stony high” gas prices.
