ISLAMABAD: The Council of Islamic Ideology (CII), during its 240th meeting on Wednesday, adopted a 10-point declaration affirming that Article 191 of the Constitution guarantees every citizen the right to freedom of expression and access to information, provided it aligns with Islamic principles, national solidarity, and the laws of the land.
The discussion was chaired by CII Chairman Dr. Raghib Hussain Naeemi, who addressed the issue surrounding his prior declaration that using a VPN is against Sharia and un-Islamic, according to The News.
He explained that there had been needless misunderstanding caused by a “clerical error” that resulted in the statement.
“A typographical error in our previous statement caused a misunderstanding after the word ‘not’ was omitted; no one has declared VPNs to be against Shariah or un-Islamic.”
