Six dogs were picked up on July 9, 2023, close to Moffat. Following a deadly attack on sheep, a farmer had shot four dogs dead.
Dumfries and Galloway Canine Rescue Centre (DGCRC) was entrusted with the care of the animals, which consisted of two girls and four boys.
The retrieval, which involved Police Scotland officers and volunteers, took several hours, according to rescuer Lee Herron of Lost Dogs Dumfries and Galloway.
The team that secured the hounds included Ms. Herron, her husband Roger, PC Kelby Kirkpatrick, and Sergeant Iain Monro.
They were reunited with the dogs after a year.
The DGCRC staff has been putting a lot of effort into helping the residents gain confidence and play and socialize over the past year.
It took a long time to gain their trust and secure them that day, Ms. Herron, who has been volunteering to assist with lost and stray dogs for almost six years, said.
They obviously had never been handled or had a collar and lead on, but they behaved themselves pretty well, and we were all very happy to have them all in a safe and secure place.
and theyIt’s incredible to see how much they’ve improved. They just want to have fun, and they are quite playful.
