ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) appealed the Lahore High Court’s decision to establish eight election tribunals in Punjab to handle electoral issues following the general elections on February 8. The Supreme Court postponed its decision on this matter on Tuesday.
The incident occurs while the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), Qazi Faez Isa, led a five-member bench that included Justices Amin-ud-din Khan, Jamal Khan Mandokhel, Naeem Akhtar Afghan, and Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi hearing the nation’s top election authority’s plea.
The issue at hand concerns the jurisdiction to establish election tribunals, which has been a source of disagreement between the LHC and the ECP for some months.
