According to the judiciary’s Mizan news website, two judges of the Iranian Supreme Court were shot dead and one was injured in Tehran on Saturday.
It said that after shooting at the judges outside the Supreme Court, the assailant committed suicide. According to Iranian media, one of the judges’ bodyguards was also hurt.
It remained unclear what motivated the assassination.
Judges Ali Razini and Muhammad Moghiseh, who worked on cases “fighting crimes against national security, espionage, and terrorism,” were identified by the judiciary as the assassinated judges.
Although the reason for their murder was not immediately apparent, Mizan stated that the attacker had no involvement in any Supreme Court proceedings, although she did not elaborate on the attacker’s identity.
