Health officials said Tuesday that a 61-year-old lady had given birth to a child called Petar, making her the oldest mother in North Macedonia.
In vitro fertilization was used at the University Clinic of Gynecology and Obstetrics in Skopje to achieve the birth.
Irena Aleksioska Papestiev, the head of the clinic, celebrated the accomplishment as a turning point in medical research. During a news conference, she stated, “The birth of baby Petar by a 61-year-old patient shows that there are no more limits in the world of medicine.”
The patient, who had diabetes and hypertension as underlying illnesses, was closely watched by the doctors. On Tuesday, the mother and infant were released in good health despite the difficulties.
