Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif remarked that the person who led an anti-Pakistan movement met his fate, alluding to the recent student-led rallies that resulted in the removal of the statues honoring Bangladesh’s founder, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Several statues, portraits, and murals of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman were vandalized by enraged individuals when the Sheikh Hasina-led government was overthrown and she and her sister escaped to India in a military aircraft.
Amidst one of the deadliest riots in the nation’s fifty-odd-year history, the Hasina administration fell. The violence that began in early July has resulted in thousands of injuries and nearly 300 deaths.
Protesters began holding demonstrations last month, calling on the government to do away with job quotas in the civil service.
