When deputies pulled down 49-year-old suspect Vem Miller at a security checkpoint, they found two guns and a “high-capacity magazine” in his black SUV.
According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s office, Mr. Miller was subsequently arrested “without incident” and charged with possessing a loaded pistol and a high-capacity magazine. Later, he was set free.
Trump “was not in any danger,” according to the US Secret Service, which also stated that the event had no bearing on protective operations.
Two misdemeanour firearms charges were brought against Mr. Miller before he was released on $5,000 (£3,826) bail. There have been no federal charges brought.
The suspect was referred to as a “lunatic” by the local sheriff, and his office stated that neither Trump’s nor the rallygoers’ safety was impacted by the interaction.
Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco stated that he “truly believed” that his officers had stopped a third assassination attempt, but he acknowledged that it was impossible to guess what the suspect was thinking.
“It may be impossible to prove that this was the man’s intent,” he noted.
There was no sign of an assassination attempt related to this incident, a federal law enforcement officer informed News.
