Tech businesses use a variety of techniques to retain people, such as creative incentives and progressive workplace environments, but did you know that Google once offered a 300% wage raise to keep one employee?
According to Aravind Srinivas, CEO of Perplexity AI, Google went to tremendous efforts to retain one of its “search team” members from departing, according to the Hindustan Times.
They have no direct role in its AI business, he explained on the Big Technology Podcast.
Meanwhile, Google CEO Sundar Pichai has stated that the business may be forced to make difficult decisions, such as job losses, in order to generate the required capacity for future investments.
In an internal message to all Google employees, Sundar Pichai said, “We have lofty goals and will invest in our top priorities this year. The reality is that in order to make this investment possible, we must make difficult decisions.”
Since January 10, Google has reportedly laid off roughly 1,000 employees across a variety of areas.
Pichai previously revealed plans to slash around 12,000 workers, or 6% of its global workforce.
“I’ve got some terrible news to share. We’ve chosen to decrease our staff by about 12,000 positions. We have previously sent a separate email to concerned US workers. “This process will take longer in other countries due to local laws and practices,” he stated.
