Maulana Muhammad Tahir Saifi, leader of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), has been placed under police custody for a seven-day physical remand by the Anti-Terrorism Court of Lahore.
The remand is in relation to allegations that the Pakistani Chief Justice was the target of a fatwa.
Judge Khalid Arshad of the Anti-Terrorism Court, who was presiding over the case, examined the court proceedings in which Maulana Muhammad Tahir Saifi was presented.
The judge heard a taped version of Saifi’s address in which he was purportedly making provocative comments about the Chief Justice.
In response to the judge’s questions, the TLP leader acknowledged that the speech was indeed his and stated that he was encouraging the Chief Justice to reevaluate a ruling that his organization believed to be unlawful.
