The installation of cameras in every prison barrack is a major step taken by the authorities to improve the surveillance system in Punjab’s jails.
Nearly 4,500 cameras would be put in the barracks of prisoners throughout Punjab, including Lahore, according to IG Jail Affairs Mian Farooq Nazir.
The installation will take place in three stages. The first will take place in high-security, central jails, where every barrack will have a single surveillance camera installed.
The goal of this project is to enhance both the general jail atmosphere and the oversight of prisoners.
According to Farooq Nazir, this project will make it easier to monitor the barracks, which will allow for greater oversight of inmates’ movements, prompt hospital transfers in the event of illness, and control over complaints about theft of objects within the barracks.
