A terrifying school bus and truck crash on a highway in Rushville, western Illinois, on Monday killed at least five people, including three children and two adults, according to Metro.
According to Illinois State Police Troop 6 Captain Jody Huffman, the bus collided with the lorry around 11:30 a.m., setting both cars on fire.
The tragedy killed three students aboard the Schuyler-Industry Schools bus, as well as the driver of the lorry.
“There aren’t really words that can be said right now,” said Schuyler County Sheriff Bill Redshaw. “When you have a loss of life like this, it’s devastating.”
The victims’ identities and ages were not immediately published, and the school system postponed classes on Tuesday and Wednesday.
“It is with a heavy heart that we announce our school community has lost both staff and students in the traffic incident involving one of our school buses this morning,” said Schuyler-Industry Schools, Inc.
“Out of respect for everyone involved, no names or further information will be released at this time.”
