In response to allegations of racism and Islamophobia leveled at him after he made remarks regarding the mayor of London, Mr. Anderson wrote a column in the Daily Express.
In an interview with News, the Ashfield MP, a former deputy chairman of the Conservative party, expressed his belief that Mr. Khan and London had fallen under the authority of “Islamists”.
After he declined to apologize for the remarks, which were called “divisive” and “dangerous,” Rishi Sunak suspended him.
Mr. Anderson claimed in the newspaper that the mayor, the Labour Party, and the media were all accusing him of racism in order to gain “political advantage”.
He stated: “Sadly, Sadiq Khan has resorted to playing the race card and accused me of stoking up division.”
Anderson continued by asserting that Mr. Khan had not denounced “shocking scenes” in which “vile slogans” were shown on Big Ben.
