Due to escalating expenses, the Australian state of Victoria withdrew as the intended host in July. This week, Singapore and Malaysia also ruled out bidding.
Yet, the CGF declared in its first public statement following the announcement that “significant progress had been made” and that it was “excited by the early concepts, which aim to reset and reframe the Games”.
With the intention of announcing a host in May, it stated that it was collaborating with several Commonwealth Games Associations (CGAs) on “further detailed assessments”.
It said that the CGAs had requested to keep the ideas confidential, although it did not specify which countries were involved.
According to the statement, the CGF is still working quickly to update the Games, which includes investigating fresh, creative ideas.
