Police said that the man had been struck, and Karolinenplatz, which is close to the Israeli consulate, was closed off.
Bavarian police urged the public not to share pictures of the incident on social media, saying that there were no signs of any further suspects.
It was advised that people stay inside any adjacent residential or office buildings and to keep away from the area. Not a second later, a police helicopter was circling above the scene.
