In a message on its service status website, it stated that it was having “a system issue” that affected several PayPal products, such as express checkout and account withdrawal.
According to the company, the technological problem was quickly fixed.
Customers, however, complained that they were having trouble making payments or logging into their accounts, indicating that even a short downtime was problematic.
As of 12:12 GMT, users had reported over 7,000 outages to the platform outage monitor Downdetector.
The incident started at 10:53 UTC, according to the company’s service status dashboard.
It claimed that among the services impacted by the outage were its peer-to-peer payment app, Venmo, and bitcoin services.
