The National Polio Emergency Center said on Saturday that three new cases of polio had been reported from Pakistan, with one case each from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, and Balochistan.
A youngster from the Qila Abdullah district of Balochistan was diagnosed with the virus, and a child from the Kemari area of Karachi was proven to have the same infection. A toddler living in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Mohmand district was found to have the third instance.
The wild poliovirus type 1 infection of all three infants was verified by the Anti-Polio Laboratory. With these additional cases, Pakistan now has 21 cases of polio this year.
The prime minister’s point person for anti-polio initiatives, Ayesha Raza Farooq, expressed grave concern about the most recent incidents.
