ISLAMABAD: On Monday, the seven-member constitutional bench of the Supreme Court heard several matters that were still pending before the highest court.

The petition to declare candidates who received more than 50% of the vote as elected winners was denied by the court during today’s session. Advocate Chaudhry Akram, the petitioner, was also fined Rs20,000 for submitting a “frivolous” petition.
Justice Mazhar asked what clause in the constitution requires a candidate to receive 50% of the vote in order to win. He emphasized that the votes cast impact the outcome of elections.
Justice Ayesha inquired as to which of the petitioner’s fundamental rights had been infringed.
