Dr. Usman Anwar, the Inspector General of Police for Punjab, has sent a summary to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, who will present it to the provincial cabinet for the necessary revisions.
According to a senior official, the Punjab police felt the need for changes after learning that, despite the fact that FIRs had been filed for 6% of all incidents reported in the province thus far, the majority of suspects and attackers who committed domestic violence against women escaped police action and court punishment.
When the parties came to an agreement or the victims gave up on pursuing criminal charges against the attackers for other reasons, the matter was considered non-cognizable in the majority of situations.
