Heavy rains wrecked havoc on Tuesday in Balochistan’s coastal city of Gwadar, putting life to a halt as water fully drowned roads, streets, and residences, destroying the power transmission system after more than 15 hours of deluge, according to News.
A rain-producing system reached the country through Balochistan on February 25, and parts of the province and upper areas were predicted to see torrential downpours and windstorms starting today.
Rainwater flooded houses and shops, forcing residents to flee their shelters. Videos showed the entire coastal town overwhelmed with rains spilling down the roadways and vehicles driving through knee-deep water.
At least seven houses were reportedly demolished, with many others slightly damaged.
Introducing the locals’ misery to Geo News, Senator Kohda Babar said that the entire old town in Gwadar has submerged in up to 2 to 3 feet of water after the heavy rain, which was still pounding the city.
“The water has entered the houses and people don’t even have a place to sleep,” she said.
Babar further stated that the last time such a circumstance transpired was in 2010, but the government does not follow up on any such issue.
“There is no one to tell about or ask after us,” he stated, thanking News for covering the awful situation in the port city.
He urged the relevant authorities, particularly the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), to “have mercy” and assist the citizens.
