With fewer than 48 hours to go before the New Hampshire primary, Florida governor Ron DeSantis withdrew, giving Donald Trump the opportunity to win the Republican presidential nomination.
CNN reports that he might face President Joe Biden in November if he wins the Granite State or if Nikki Haley places second. This would expedite the process of his candidacy.
Trump won Iowa last week, with Haley coming in third.
Haley, Trump’s former UN ambassador, is trailing her former boss in the polls for her strongest state, New Hampshire, and it could make or break her chances of winning the Republican nomination. No candidate has ever failed to win the party after winning the first two states.
According to a Sunday CNN-University of New Hampshire poll, 50% of potential GOP primary voters like Trump, while 39%,Trump gets the backing of 67% of registered Republicans, compared to 58% of registered undeclared voters in favor of Haley. DeSantis, meanwhile, finished his presidential campaign on Sunday with just 6% of the GOP vote in New Hampshire, falling short of the 10% needed to secure delegates.
