Biden stated that the pardons should not be interpreted as an admission of any wrongdoing and were meant to protect his family from politically driven attacks.
In an effort to stop what he described as “unjustified… politically motivated prosecutions,” Covid response chief Anthony Fauci and members of the House 6 January riot probe were also pardoned at the last minute.
According to the departing president, “Our nation owes these public servants a debt of gratitude for their tireless commitment.”
Throughout the outbreak, Donald Trump and Dr. Fauci had many disagreements. Trump has also threatened to take action against “enemies from within” and those who attempted to hold him responsible for the Capitol riot on January 6.
Trump has accused Biden and Biden’s associates of corruption for years without any proof.
